Project Highlights
This 1,536,000 square foot two-level enclosed shopping center with a 1,555 car parking deck demanded considerable off-site highway work. This included coordination with the Connecticut Department of Transportation for reconstruction of Route 9 into a four-lane high- way. The new highway involved construction of an interchange that served the mall and the surrounding area. The reconstruction of a railroad crossing and adjacent street crossing were also carried out.
The site is located within the flood plain of the Still River so a comprehensive flood control plan was developed, resulting in a substantial dike system with control valves to regulate the downstream effect of the project. This was done in cooperation with the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection and the City of Danbury.
All work proceeded smoothly, in part due to the forethought of negotiating a Project Labor Agreement with the Allied Building Trades.
